5. *Writing is a process. It is possible that some of the sources you include now may not be useful and therefore discarded in the end, which is fine. For credit, the sources must be related to the topic you have chosen however. This assignment is to ensure that sources are in your hands early on in the semester.

It is important that you are examining the historical events that are outlined in Vega's piece. Outside of your required academic sources, feel free to use news data as well. There is a lot of information about the current state of race and equality in Dominican Republic in the news today. The next step in your research process will be to to secure solid academic sources (use the Sources folder in the WI Center under Course Readings for assistance). Strong academic sources will provide you with a foundation in the issues which will be important as you formulate your thesis or argument. 8. This discussion board will help you to reflect on the sources you have acquired and the process of acquiring them which is particularly important in African American Studies. In the context of African American Studies there have often been and there continue to be obstacles in the documentation of Africana perspectives or experiences. Likewise, there have been and continue to be inequalities in the production of knowledge that lend to the production of stereotypical information as fact for example.
As a result, it is important that we take the time needed to conduct sound research; analyze our sources; look for misrepresentations or omissions and compare a range of material. Toward this end, respond to one of the following questions:
