ADAPTATIONS IN SKELETON FOR UPRIGHT POSTURE -

1. Foramen magnum is directed downward so that the head may rest vertically on the vertebral column.

2. Four curves in the back bone keep the centre of gravity near the heels. It helps in balancing & makes walking erect on two legs much easire. (Bipedal)

3. Thorax is wider from side to side than from front to back, this helps to maintain equilibrium.

4. Bowl like pelvis supports the lower abdominal viscera.

5. Metacorples from a wide palm & the polles is opposable. This makes the hand a grasping organ to work with it.

6. Leg bones are stronger & carry full weight of body in locomotion.

7. Broad feet provide stability in the upright posture.

8. Increased mobility of the neck to see all round.
