Acoustics Noise and Vibration Assignment

Topic: Acoustics Module Assignment

You have been commissioned to design the Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system for a condominium tower. The mechanical room will be located at the top of the building in a penthouse. The dimensions of the mechanical room are 20 x 14 x 4.5 m. The most expensive suite in the tower is directly below the mechanical room. The equipment in the mechanical room includes a chiller, and an Air Handling Unit. Besides the mechanical room is a diesel generator set. The room dimensions are 8 x 5 x 4.5 m.

Specify the appropriate ambient noise level for the suite below the mechanical room then design noise and vibration control systems to achieve that goal. You will need to consider air and structure-borne noise paths through the building. Duct borne noise into the suite should also be considered. Sound power data for the various pieces of equipment is shown below.

Design solutions should be drawn up. Calculations supporting the designs should be done in octave bands.

Use AutoCad to draw the design, and the paper should be around 4 pages (including calculations). More supporting materials could be provided if you want.
