A nuclear power plant produces heat through fission of uranium which is used to create high pressure steam. The steam expands through a turbine to a low pressure in order to produce work which drives a generator to produce electric power. The low pressure steam must be condensed and pumped back to called the Rankine Cycle. we will explore the effects of pressure and temperature on the plant efficiency and take into account moisture in the turbine.

A) explore how temperature and pressure interact with other limitation to create a space of possible solution.

B) explore how cycle efficiency varies within this solution space.

C) Select a Set of parameters which satisfies the requirements and solve this cycle to obtain the necessary steam mass flow to produce 600 MW of power.

keep in mind that:

1) low temperature > 70 C

2) High pressure < 200 bar

3) High Temperature < 700 C

4) Max moisture content in turbine 5% (x4 > 0.95)

5) Turbine adiabatic efficiency = 0.9

6) Pump adiabatic = 0.6

Assume constat pressure in the boiler and in the condenser. Clearly state any additional assumptions you will use. Show how varying the pressures and hight temperature cause predictable change in the maintaining a turbine exit quality above 0.95. You can work with the ideal gas or a real cycle or both.
