A 45 degree strain gage rosette, with each gage having a nominal resistance of 120 W and a gage factor, is attached to an Aluminium structural element of a machine. Each strain gage is inserted into its own dc Wheatstone bridge with all other resistors in the bridge being of the same nominal value of the strain gage. Each bridge is supplied with a dc voltage of value 5 V. When the machine is subject to a load, the change in output voltage measured at each bridge is 2.025 mV, 9.0 mV, and -7.53 mV respectively. Determine the principle stresses and strains corresponding to these readings. Using both the Tresca and von Mises criteria, state whether or not you would report that this structure will fail at these loads. You may assume for this particular Aluminium 70 GPa, v= 0.3, and yield stress=500 MPa.
