1. An 81 piece gage blocks consists of

9 Blocks =.1001-.1009 in steps of .0001
49 Blocks =.101-.149 in steps of 001
19 Blocks =.05-.95 in steps of 05
4 Blocks =1-4-100 in steps of 1

What pieces would you select to get a length of 2.3797 in. Describe the process of building the height.

2. A 10 in sine bar is shown in the figure below. Determine the process of measuring the angle of the sine bar.

Measurement of Bore Diameter

3. A bore 250.1 mm with a tolerance of ±0.02mm is to be measured by a 200±0.02mm long pin.

a) Show that the diameter can be measured withthe pin shown in the cavity by measuring w. Prove that the diameter of the bore can be expressed by : D=L+(w2/2L)

b) Estimate the minimum and maximumswing, w.

c) Show that the error in diameter may be expressed as:

δD≅ w/L δw+(1-w^2/(2L^2 ))δL

4. The diameter of the bore in a plain ring is measured by laying it on flat surface and placing three 25 mm dia ball equally spaced inside the ring with a 35 mm resting on them. The distance from the surface to the top of the ball is found to be 48.3 mm. Calculate the diameter of the bore of the ring. Describe how would you assess the error in the measurement of the bore diameter .
Measurement of Taper

5. The taper of a bore is measured by placing a 25 mm dia ball and a 40 mm dia ball in the taperbore shown below with gauge block with a 7 mm gage block with 40 mm dia ball and 9 mm gage block with 25 mm gage block . The height H1 and H2 are measured to be 1.12 mm and 50.18 mm. Estimate the taper of the bore.

6. The taper of a bore is measured by placing a 25 mm dia ball and a 40 mm dia ball in the taper bore shown below. The height H1 and H2 are measured to be 1.32 mm and 60.21 mm. Estimate the taper of the bore

7. A Sine bar is used to measure taper in the following set up. Develop an expression for measuring the external nd internal taper shown in the figure and describe how would you do it.

Screw Thread Measurement

8. Figure shows a micrometer measuring dimensions over three wires as shown. Show that the measurement over the wire, M, on a unified thread may be expressed as:

M=Dp-0.866P+3W

Where, Dp=pitch diameter,P=pitch,W=wire dia
