1. What is an example of an excitatory postsynaptic potential (EPSP), being sure to name the neurotransmitter that is released and what type(s) of ions cross the cell membrane. 

2. What is inhibitory postsynaptic potential IPSP.

3. What is an example of spatial summation that causes threshold to be reached. Also, the difference between temporal summation and spatial summation.

4. What is an example of temporal summation that does not result in reaching threshold difference between spatial and temporal summation.

5. Indicate whether GABA causes EPSPs or IPSPs in the central nervous system. What ion crosses the neuron membrane to produce the EPSP or IPSP?  Is the net movement of those ions into or out of the neuron? What is the usefulness of GABA if it does not cause action potentials to occur?

6. What is propagation. 

(a) What guarantees that if threshold is reached at the axon hillock, it will travel all the way to the axon terminal? 

(b) That prevents action potentials from being generated from the midpoint of an axon back toward the cell body?
