Your final paper is an academic research paper that uses synthesis to analyze a topic. Your grade will depend on your ability to write a well-researched paper that integrates and synthesizes sources to take a stance and make an argument. Your grade will also depend on your ability to write a paper that is mechanically sound (and shows improvement from your first paper) as well as stylistically strong. You will need to pay attention to the issues we have discussed in class.

Here is the full list of requirements:

Your paper should be no less than 5 pages. This DOES NOT INCLUDE your works cited page.

You should have at least 3 sources for your final paper. Those sources should be properly used in text and have a final works cited page. You should seek the reference librarian or review the OWL website for additional help with such. The novel(s) you use do count.

NO LATE PAPERS CAN BE ACCEPTED. You should ensure that you upload your final paper to Blackboard in the proper format as a Word document. Anything else and you run the risk of failing the class.

Failure to submit the final paper will result in an "F" grade for the class.

I highly recommend that you seek out help from the writing center or from a reference librarian or other support services on campus. This paper will have a significant impact on your grade.

Here are the topics you can select from SELECT ONE:

What is it that makes dystopian novels the most prominent novels of this generation? You might discuss the millennial ethos, the challenges this generation faces, and make reference to other novels and movies you are familiar with. You should use the Running Man, Oryx and Crake or, The Circle if you take this approach.

Do a close character analysis of any character from one of the novels from the class. Use a similar method that we used in class, but also utilize the information on Jungian archetypes and other materials discussed in class.

Choose one symbol from Watchmen, Ready Player One or Running Man and discuss its importance to the novel. Discuss how this symbol connects to a real world phenomenon or idea.

In a recent study, it was found the nearly a quarter of Americans did not read a book last year (paper or electronic). Having been forced to read several novels this semester, discuss this phenomenon and your thoughts on the matter. Some education research is required, but you can explore literacy, the changing landscape of reading, the book industry, and the reasons behind shifting literacy patterns.
