The short answer questions are just that. They are designed to evaluate your understanding of the material. Some may be answered in a few words or will ask you to list several items, and some may take a few sentences. They are not designed to be answered as essay questions.

1. Briefly describe the four factors that contributed to the emergence of sociology as a discipline in the 19th century.

The essay questions are also just that. They are designed to evaluate your comprehension of the material. In order to do that you need to answer the questions in your own words using the material that you read in the book and from your personal experience. Two or three sentences are NOT an adequate response to these questions. In order for me to evaluate your knowledge, you need to put it down in your
answers.
