Topic:In 200-300 words, describe what you think being American means. Do you see any of these traits in these early works? How so? You must include specific examples from at least two of the works assigned this week.

Sources:You may only use works from this week's readings as sources. You may not use any internet sources. Any assignments with internet source information will automatically receive a 0.

1. If you do not follow the requirements for using sources, your essay cannot receive above 70.

2. Failure to include material from any source will result in an automatic F.
