Self-Reflection on School Law Course

Introduction

The purpose of this paper is to discuss what I learned from the school law course, key concepts of school law mean to me, any "aha" moments, how I can use the concepts in my personal or professional future. At the beginning of the school law course, it was my first time learning about school law overview. School law also has similar concepts as business law or legal environment course, but school law focus on the law on education in schools and communities.

What I Know About School Law

The first thing I know about school law is that schools have responsibilities to ensure everyone can feel safe and protected against discrimination, such as bullying behaviors and violence. The second thing I know about school law everyone has rights for learning, educating and attending schools like everyone else no matter everyone's background in these situations.

What I Know About School Law

I would like to want to know is how to prepare to evaluate legal ethical issues schools. Then, I want to know several strategies on conducting legal research on educational legal system. Next, I want to know how to investigate and discuss principles of school and school policies in federal and state law. Then, I want to know ways to interact with others on resolving any illegal issues in schools. Finally, I want to know how to ensure parents, staffs and students maintain successful educational relationship while attend schools and following the school law.

What I Learned About School Law

The first part of the reflection of school law is to focus on current issues in school law.

The school law issues are first amendment, which is the freedom speech, fourth amendment, which is search and seizure, special education/inclusionary practices and bullying. The first school law issue is the freedom of speech. People involved in schools should have the right to say their attitudes, beliefs, opinions or views on different situations. The second school law issue is the fourth amendment, which is the search and seizure. No one has the right to search anyone's belongings unless they have a good reason. For example, if someone brings a gun to school and the authority sees the weapon, they have the right to report to the police. The third school law issue is offering special education/inclusionary practices in schools. People with disabilities should have the right to work or learn education in schools, but they have to receive special needs in their situation. The fourth school law issue is bullying including civil rights, discrimination in schools because it is still an issue in home, social media, schools and workplaces.
