What is the standard reduction potential and standard oxidation potential of water? I can't tell from the chart because water is in two places.
O2(g) + 4H+ + 4e- ------> 2H2O(l) = +1.23V ..... is this the standard reduction potential or standard oxidation potential of water? If this is the standard reduction potential of water, is the standard oxidation potential of water -1.23?
H2O(l) + 2e- --------> H2(g) + 2OH- = -0.83 ....is this the standard reduction potential or standard oxidation potential of water? If this is the standard reduction potential of water, is the standard oxidation potential of water +0.83?
Is one of these the SRP of oxygen or hydrogen? If so, is it reduction or oxidation potential? How come there is no oxidation potential chart? How do you figure out what the oxidation potential is? Please provide the actual voltage potential.
