Essay

Select an issue related to ‘food culture' and present a specific, debatable argument (remember: it should be possible for readers to disagree with your claim). You are welcome to use claims of fact or definition; value; cause/effect; or policy/solution. (Pssst: The thesis types we discussed at the start of the semester are on Canvas).

Potential topics include the fast food industry, industrial farming, obesity, corn and/or high fructose corn syrup, ‘organic' food or any type of labeling, biotechnology, the cattle or and ‘protein' industry, GMOs, etc.

Make sure that your topic falls under ‘food culture' and not some other issue category (body image, other environmental issues). If you have any doubts about your topic being related to ‘food culture,' please check with me.

Your essay should be 4-5 pages.

You must use at least one essay from They Say, I Say, "What Should We Eat?" and at least one article you have found on the COC databases or another valid source as support/evidence. You may also use supplemental material such as documentaries or Ted Talks.
