TOPIC: A societal issue related to chemistry.

An ISSUE is defined as:
"A MATTER THAT IS IN DISPUTE BETWEEN TWO OR MORE PARTIES: A POINT OF DEBATE OR CONTROVERSY."
(Webster's Collegiate Dictionary).

This means that I would like you to address the pros and cons of the issue or, if there is a problem, present a solution. Whatever the topic of your paper, you need to reflect the two sides of it. You may say "my topic does not have a negative aspect" - i.e. I saw that from a student who talked about solar energy, but if you really stop and think, even solar energy has a negative aspect - i.e. costs a lot, or no one pays for the upkeep of existing power lines, or the energy that is used in production of the panels, waste during the production of the raw materials, etc. So, long story short - there are always at least two sides to a story, and I would like you to state your position on the issue and address the other side(s) of the "argument."

The issue clearly stated. (Introduction/Summary part of the paper)

Your position on the issue clearly stated with evidence of support.

a. Explain your position.

b. Brief but clearly stated support/evidence for your position
(more detail on the information expected in paper body, see below)

Body of Paper: Elaborate on the scientific principle/evidence used in your issue.

Additional information: i.e. how will this affect our future; how does this affect us currently; how can we  fix the problem; what can we learn from this; is there other technology available; how do other countries approach this issue. In other words: if you are addressing a problem give some alternatives or ideas to solve it. If you are looking at some technology, look around and check for alternative/ variation on technology available or elaborate on future or current effects of the technology, etc.

Readability: organization, clear sentences, and correct grammar.

Source:Must be listed on a separate "sheet of paper" - write your sources on a new page. State where the article is from. If cited from the internet, the internet address (web page URL) must be included. If you can, attach an electronic copy of your article.
