Throughout the semester, you've logged countless hours composing, revising, editing, proofreading, and peer-reviewing documents for this course. We've covered a plethora of business communication-related topics, including: memos, resumes, reports, proposals, cover letters, executive summaries, annotations, sales pitches, collaborative research panels, etc. Additionally, we covered important grammatical concepts like sentence focus and examined the features present in business discourse. Furthermore, we have also gone over several strategies for balancing scheduling conflicts and managing time wisely. For your final assignment, I'm asking you to write a letter to an incoming BUS 300 student, advising them about the upcoming rigors of this course.

Task: In a well-polished, proofread, genuine letter to a future BUS 300 student, compose an informative welcome letter that summarizes the course requirements and outlines the expectations of your former instructor (Mr. Deare). Think of this as an opportunity to set an incoming student up for success in a difficult, labor-intensive course that is designed to prepare them for the real business world. In your letter, you should mention specific strategies for successfully completing the heavy workload. Perhaps you'll want to discuss the creative thought processes needed to select a topic for the business report; maybe you want to advise them on the amount of practice and preparation needed to excel in the Two-Minute Sales Pitch or group panel; maybe you can provide study strategies that will help them prepare for the mechanics midterm; or maybe you have some other tips that really proved to be effective and helped you do well in the course (going to office hours, forming a study group, attending class regularly, emailing your instructor with questions, attending tutoring to get help with your writing, etc.). For those of you who excelled in the course, explain what it takes to succeed in the class; for those of you who struggled, explain what you would do differently next time to improve your performance and where to look for help. This is your final opportunity to reflect on all of the hard work you've done this semester and to apply what you've learned about business discourse in an authentic, helpful letter to a clueless newcomer. Make sure this letter is formatted properly using the correct layout, salutation and closing, and also make sure it adheres to the requirements listed above.

Criteria for Success: Successful letters will be formatted correctly, directly respond to the prompt, adhere to the word count, contain focused, grammatically correct sentences.
