The essay is an opportunity for students to synthesize what they have acquired. Using information found in the course book, Ways of the World, students must answer ONE of the following questions.

• Enlightenment thinkers envisioned humanity journeying down a path of progress: has that journey been beneficial?
• What was the most fruitful cultural interchange in human history?
• Do we have more freedom in the modern world than we did in previous eras?
• What was the most important event in human history? Why?
• What was the most important thought in human history? Why?
• Judging from a contemporary global standpoint, are women in a better position now than they were in previous epochs of history?

Instructions

1. Essays must be no less than 1,000 words.

2. Essays make make an argument that answers the question.

3. Essays must employ citations from Ways of the World in order to support the argument made.
