California: An Interpretive History

DISCUSSION PAPER

LATE US HISTORY

HOW TO TURN IT IN?:

In class, turn it in in paper form, NO EXCEPTIONS! If you send it to my email instead of handing it in person it goes to my spam and you get a 0.

IF YOU MISS CLASS I WILL NEED A DOCUMENTED EXCUSE IN ORDER TO GIVE YOU CREDIT.

WHEN IS IT DUE?:

The moment class starts (check the syllabus for specific dates), if I leave without your paper, you get a 0.

CHECK THE SYLLABUS FOR THE DUE DATES

Each of the discussion papers will cover a time period discussed in class. Each of your discussion essays will be 5 paragraphs. Your job is to take the multitude of sources in the class and make a historical argument. DO NOT TELL ME YOU WANT TO USE OUTSIDE SOURCES. That request is illogical. If you cannot make an argument with the sources you have it is because you are not allowing the evidence to guide you. That is to say, you should not be making an argument and collecting evidence to prove it; you should be collecting evidence and drawing an argument from the evidence. Outside sources will not alleviate the problem only complicate them. Furthermore, evaluating sources is a skill and this is not a class that teaches you why using Wiki or Spark notes is intellectually bankrupt.
