1. Respond to the statement, "The values gained from literature in childhood often have profound influences on adults." Identify at least five specific books and their authors that influenced you as a child and describe why and how they had an impact on your life. (150 word minimum)

2. Search in the library or a bookstore to find at least five books that you believe meet the criteria discussed in the chapter and that enhance children's language development. Discuss how the books meet the criteria. (150 word minimum)

3. Select a book, share it with children, record the children's responses to the book, and classify the children's comments about the book according to Chart 1-5 found on page 37. (150 word minimum)

4. Ruddell (pages 36-38) identifies six internal motivators that foster aesthetic responses in readers and build personal connections with literature: problem resolution, prestige, aesthetic motivation, escape, intellectual curiosity, and understanding of self. Find an example of literature that can be associated with each of these six motivators. List the title and author and briefly describe how and why these books would motivate and encourage aesthetic responses from children. (150 word minimum).
