1. The leading causes of death in the United states and African American list could go on and on but the main contributing factors are Heart disease: 614,348, Cancer: 591,699, Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 147,101, Accidents (unintentional injuries): 136,05, Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 133,103, Alzheimer's disease: 93,541, Diabetes: 76,488, Influenza and pneumonia: 55,227, Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 48,146. Intentional self-harm (suicide): 42,773 (Leading Causes of Death, 2017).

Other things that could in fluence this is the determinants that we as African Americans face which is health, transportation, food and agriculture, housing, waste, energy, industry, urbanization (The determinants of health, 2017). Also some other determinants of health fall under several broad categories: policymaking, social factors,individual behavior, biology and genetics (Determinants of Health, 2017).

Also the gap in life expectancy between the black and white populations decreased 2.3 years between 1999 and 2013 (5.9 to 3.6 years). The decrease in the gap was due to larger decreases in death rates for the black population for heart disease, cancer, and HIV disease. The gap in life expectancy between black and white males decreased 2.4 years between 1999 and 2013 (6.8 to 4.4 years).

2. According to data from the CDC 2014, the leading causes of death for both African American people and Caucasian is diseases of the heart at 32%. We then go along to see that with Caucasians they had a much lower rate of not having insurance than African Americans and Hispanics did. Even realizing how Hispanics aren't really known for obesity, but White people and African American people are. Statistics showed me that African American women had a better chance for obesity than white women did.

These figures include both sexes and all ages for Caucasians, African Americans, and Hispanics. Heart disease is higher in women than men regardless of race, and higher for African Americans in general. Typical American diet and lack of exercise can contribute to heart disease being the leading cause of death. Hypertension could be higher in African Americans than Caucasian people due to lack of insurance. Suicide being a leading cause of death in mainly Caucasians could be to cultural differences compared to African American who have strong family bonds and religious bonds.
