Leadership on a Social Issue

Students should use APA style for citations and structure.

Paper Topic: The student should expand upon their last paper, which described the background on a social issue, now moving into identifying the leadership strategies and motivation of an identifiable figure on this social issue.

Paper Content: The paper should cover the following three areas:

--Brief biographical background on the leader. Where are they from, what is their work outside of their focus on the social issue, if any (Politician? Business leader? Athlete?), and what was their relevant experience or training to lead on this issue? This section should be no more than two paragraphs long.

--What is their motivation to address this social issue? Why do they say that they are interested in attacking the problems they have chosen to address? This section should involve quotations from the person for why they act.

--Strategy: What are they doing to create change here? Do they provide funding, human resources, or political lobbying, do they form organizations to address the problem, or do they do something else? This should be the main body of the paper.

Other Guidance: In this short paper, you should not have a long introduction, but you should characterize the nature of this person's leadership on the issue (direct work through agencies, funding of others, building a network of businesses and governments, publicizing the issues). Also, the paper should include a conclusion-is this leader effective? What would you do similarly or differently if you were working on this problem? This judgment of his or her efforts should not be more than a paragraph.
