Question:

Your formal report will be a comprehensive project, which you should consider as an extension of your recommendation

The specifics of your formal report: 5-6 pages, single-spaced. These pages include the "text" only-not the front or back matter.

You must include at least two graphics that you construct yourself in Excel

You must use at least four outside sources, and they should be cited in your paper (in-text citations) and on your "Works Cited Page." Consult the MLA Formatting and Style Guide. For help with citing your sources and constructing your Works Cited page.

You will find sample formal reports elsewhere in this module.

Do not make this project any more work than it has to be. You should be able to simply enhance your recommendations with some additional research, graphics, and a works cited page.

Your formal report s should be organized as such:

Front matter Length

Title page 1 page

Text
Introduction 5-6 pages
Background
Problem
Discussion
Conclusion
(Your report should also contain at least two graphic elements from Excel. You may also include charts, diagrams, tables, etc. However, these visuals should not be used simply to take up space.)

Back matter
Works cited 1-2 pages

At least four sources

Appendix, if necessary

Include other supporting information: large graphs, long excerpts, etc

Details about the report''s sections

The front matter is fairly self explanatory.

The text is the main section of the report.

The background is exactly what the title implies. Consider summarizing the history of your topic, or maybe the events leading up to the present situation.

The problem in your report may deal with declining sales, high employee turnover, or high overhead costs of running a plant.

You offer your solution in the discussion section. Hopefully, you can adapt the content of your proposal in this section.

The conclusion is a chance for a final pitch, a summary of what you have just said.

The back matter includes all concluding material.

Your sources can include interviews, books, articles, and web sites.

Before beginning writing this assignment, consider the following:

Length - Use the sample reports as guides as to formatting and content.

Audience--You can envision the same audience that you used for your recommendation. Simply assume that they have accepted your proposal and you are preparing a long report for the project.

Obviously, the text will be the most time-consuming part of the report. However, if you build on your previous assignments, you can keep trouble to a minimum.

For example, assume that you are proposing that your reader''s company outsource its personnel matters--that is, use an outside consultant to handle all personnel services. In your background, you should describe how many companies are outsourcing their administrative tasks and personnel consultants are performing many of the duties once held by in-house personnel departments. (Use research to support this contention.) In your discussion, address the specifics of what your consulting business will do. Describe the benefits of outsourcing personnel duties and what you have done for other clients. Also, present the possible liabilities of such outsourcing, detailing how you will address these liabilities.

If you recommended training employees through pre-written computer software instead of classroom sessions with an instructor, research other companies that have done this. Describe exactly how the software will work and the hardware requirements. As always, address the liabilities of using this software, but also explain how the customer will ultimately benefit from using your software.
