Compare and contrast the development status and evolution of your two assigned countries (see directly above) with reference to the following elements:

a. Outline the core/periphery status of each country globally (on a worldwide scale), and internal core/periphery spatial patterns within each country.

b. Briefly explain the relationship between internal co. re/periphery areas and historical urbanization patterns and current spatial distribution of urban areas within each country.

c. Describe the relationship between the locations of internal core/periphery areas and the location of different types of natural resources (including water bodies and arable land) and energy supplies within each country.

d. Critically analyze the effect of the current government type (e.g. democracy, if applicable) and specific government policies on core/periphery relations.

e. Finally, discuss your forecast for future trends in each country's national development (core/periphery) status (on a global scale) and internal core/periphery patterns looking 10-15 years into the future.

2. Diversity & National Unity: Compare and Contrast Two Countries

With reference to your two assigned countries (see directly above), compare and contrast your countries on the basis of the following

a. Outline the social, ethnic, linguistic, and ragious diversity of the population in each country on a national as wt:ill as an internal basis, and very briefly explain the historical reasons for these patterns. To restate, you will be comparing the two countries on the basis of overall national statistics (percentages at a national level), but then you will also be comparing the spatial patterns of relevant population characteristics within each country, along with their historical background (briefly).

b. Describe any relationships between the physical shape and size of each country and the spatial distribution of these social, ethnic, linguistic, or religious characteristics, then compare and contrast the two countries.

c. Discuss any tensions between these different population groups within each country, and whether these tensions affect national unity of each country.

d. Critically analyze the effectiveness of current governmental approaches to ease the tensions. Can you suggest any different or further strategies to address any tensions?

e. What is the future of these tensions? Do you think that they will continue or abate? Will the national unity of the country be affected? Please explain.
