Question: Context: Learning to write really means learning to revise. And as we saw in the Revision Demonstration assignment, revision demands intense focus so that your revision efforts go beyond superficial changes and improve the text in thoughtful, effective ways. For the Revision Demonstration assignment, you focused your revision efforts on content-what point you are trying to make in your writing and what information you need to include/exclude/clarify in order to do so. For this assignment, you will turn your attention to the style of your writing and examine it in a similarly focused and critical way.

Task: For this assignment, you will begin by investigating and describing your writing style. To do so, you will select a passage of whatever draft of your Object Analysis you choose and interrogate the passage in order to describe your writing style. Your analysis will include identifying, describing and analyzing the following features in your writing:

• Sentence type

• Sentence structure

• Syntax

• Sentence Variation

• Populated Prose

• Subject/Verb relationships

• Verb choice

• Subject Phrase length

• Transition words and phrases for building cohesion

• Tone and register

• (You do NOT need to address everything on this list, nor should your analysis read like a list)

Your rationale should be detailed, using specific references to both the original and revised passages as well as terminology we practiced in class. Your rationale should be detailed and well-developed, and therefore logically organized into focused paragraphs.

Format: Each section of the document should be clearly labeled. Your passages-both original and revised-should be carefully labelled and formatted (you should consider using underlining, numbering, and other formatting features) so that the areas referenced in the rationale are easy for the reader to locate. This formatting is ESSENTIAL to your success on this assignment.
