Did Africans resist their condition? How does the author Uya describe the slave ship vs. the plantation? What is the motive behind slave uprisings? What tactics were used to quell rebellion?

Read "The Origins of the Debate: Slavery and Racism in Seventeenth-Century Virginia" (118-152). To what extent do the colonial laws of Maryland and Virginia display prejudiced attitudes toward blacks that may have predisposed whites to think of them as inferior and thus able to be enslaved?
