Project Assignment

At it's core this is a data visualization project that is asking you to take the data you collected on yourself and create a visual representation of it. However, I really want you to think about that data as moments in your life or representations of things that are important to you rather than impersonal data that was extracted for marketing purposes. As such we will look at a number of artists that use data in their work, I want you to adapt one of the strategies of these artists to help you visualize your data.

There are a number of steps to this project.

• I want you to collect some data on yourself. For example, you might start by making a list of everything you have done in a 24-hour period that might have generated or recorded data about you (anything you can think of from fitness apps to the amount of surveillance cameras you've passed). Or you might make note of all of the internet connected devices that you have in your house (or come in contact with during a day) From this list I want you choose one of these things and collect as much data from it as possible.

• Before starting work on your project I want you to write a brief proposal that states. What data you're using. How you plan on visualizing this data. What materials/techniques you plan on using.

• With this include at least two small preparatory drawings (these are quick sketches meant to help you visualize your idea, they do not need to be elaborate) that give me (and you) an idea of what you would like this to look like.

• Create your final image.

• write a brief two paragraph description describing how your final image relates the data you collected to personal and meaningful parts of your own experience.
