Project Guidelines -
The goal of this assignment is for you to become the expert on one disease or health condition. The challenge of this assignment will be taking information from reliable sources - epidemiological studies from pubmed and reliable epidemiological data from government websites - and distilling the information you find into a consumable format for a fellow Epi student.
You will be able to choose between 2 different formats to present information on your disease/condition.
What is a fact sheet?
A fact sheet provides meaningful information about a topic in a format that is brief and easy to read. Experts use them to summarize the "state of the art" about the topic. Fact sheets are used to provide an overview, to provide recommendations and advice, and sometimes to convince the reader to change their behavior. The focus is on providing what is essential and presenting the information in a way that is visually appealing and accessible.
What is an academic poster?
A poster is very similar to a fact sheet however typically in academia they are not used as much to persuade a reader to change their behavior, but to provide information regarding an exposure and an outcome. It is typically arranged similar to an academic paper, with an introduction, methods, results, discussion and references section. However for this assignment, please use the required headings (below).

Sample Fact Sheets and posters will be posted on the course Blackboard web site or circulated in class. Please note that these are just for your reference and the guidelines have changed so be sure to ask questions and read these guidelines carefully.
Formatting for this Assignment
• The fact sheet should be at least 3 pages double-spaced typed pages long, not including the reference list. A poster should be no larger than a 4x8 foot space (48x96 inches) Fact sheets can have many more pages if there are lots of figures/tables.
• Use at least 12 point font.
• Some information is more clearly communicated using figures or tables, and you should make use of this in your assignment.
• All references used to create your fact sheet should be cited in the text and referenced at the end.
• No late projects will be received.
Information about the disease:
You must have the following headers in your fact sheet or on your poster and the accompanying information: Note instead of using "disease" in your headers, you can have the name of your disease/condition. Ex. why do we care about asthma?

• How do you define a case/ how is the disease diagnosed?
•Risk Factors/Prevention of Disease
•Symptoms of Disease
•Treatment of Disease
•References
•You also must include at least one graph/figure that is cited from a credible source.
