Problem

Prince Henry the navigator spearhead his country explorational effort in Africa and the Atlantic with the aide of the Portuguese mariners. He was able to explore the eastward route to Africa which became the bedrock of his nation trade empire in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Through this conquest, Portugal was able to expand their influence from Africa to the western coast of Indian and subsequently to Brazil on the eastern coast of South America.

Christopher Columbus was an Italian who explore for the Spanish monarchs they wanted to spread Catholicism and gain a commercial advantage over their neighboring county Portugal. Columbus believes that based on using calculations an others mariners journey's he could navigate westward to Indian which could help expand European influence and Catholicism to other regions in the world. However, his journey took him to the island of Bahamas and then to another island which he named Hispaniola.

Both voyages were spurred by the idea of expansion and gaining territories to further improve trade routes and spreading religious beliefs. Columbus voyage exposes the world at that time to a distant horizon that was non-existence in their view and was supposedly called the new world.
