After the mixture dissolved it was then cooled in an ice bath while bubbling with the insertion of nitrogen gas to displace the air. Once the temperature reached 5 degrees Celsius a solution of 1.8 grams of sodium nitrate and another 6 mL of water was added to mixture slowly. After 5 minutes a solution of 4.25 grams of potassium iodide and a third 6 mL of water was added to the mixture once the brown colored complex partially separated
