Prior to your text discussion class meeting, you are expected to read the attached short story, "Making a Difference" and do the following research on stuff mentioned in the story:

• a young person who is passionate about a cause and makes a difference, like Ryan Hreljac

• a water-purification device that are helping to deliver safe water or transforming lives, like LIfeStraws

A few of Linked with ideas are provided below for your convenience. Please don't feel you need to limit your research to what you find here.

After your class discussion, you are expected to reflect on your experience and write a 6-paragraph essay that satisfies the following criteria:

1. Introduction

2. Reflect on the class discussion. Describe one or more comments by others that made you think about the topic differently or introduced you to new ideas. Be sure to not only describe the comments, but also to reflect on how your thinking was challenged or changed.

3. What do you think of the struggle between Asha and her mother? If you were in Asha's position, what would you have done? What are you passionate about?

4. Summarize your research on a young person or non-profit organization that is focused on the world water crisis. What do you think about these efforts?

5. Summarize what you have learned about a water-purifying device. For example: How does it work? How much does it cost? Describe at least one success story. What do you think about its potential to make a difference in delivering safe water or transforming lives?

6. Conclusion: How do you intend to make a difference now and in your chosen career?

The journal is due one week after your class discussion.
