Prepare: As you prepare to write your second discussion for this week, take a few moments to do the following:

  • Read Chapters 2 and 4 in the textbook.
  • Explore the AWC In-Text Citation Helper
  • Review the Ashford Writing Center (AWC) articles on
  • Good Paragraph Development: As Easy as P.I.E.
  • Essay structure
  • Guidelines for Paraphrasing Sources
  • Guidelines for Incorporating Quotes
  • Review the grading rubric for this discussion.

Reflect: Before drafting your initial post, take time to reflect on one of the paragraphs in your paper. Does your topic sentence in that paragraph support your thesis statement? Is the claim in your topic sentence fully developed in the rest of the body paragraph? Think about your topic sentence's claim and how you will add credibility to your writing.

Write (due Thursday, Day 3): In 200 to 300 words, share a rough draft of one of your paper's body paragraphs. Your paragraph must include a topic sentence, one direct quote, and one paraphrased passage. Integrate both of these elements into your paragraph using proper APA in-text citations. Below your body paragraph, provide the original text that you are paraphrasing and label it clearly as "Original Source Text." Include an APA-formatted reference list for the sources noted in the body of your paragraph.

In a separate paragraph,

  • Explain how your topic sentence supports your thesis statement.
  • Explain how the quoted and paraphrased material supports your claims and/or adds credibility to your writing.

Please review the Week Two Discussion 2 Initial Post Template before writing your response.

Should College Athletes Be Paid?

The style of argument I picked to write my assignment is the classic argument. I chose this case because I that believe if I can present clear and intent information about my research topic I can persuade and influence my readers to accept my side of the argument. The research topic I chose to write on is College athletes, and .whether it should be paid. The College athletes are famous and widely practiced in almost every college in America. This is because college students invest most of their energy and time in athletes while others are learning. The keywords I found this thesis include persuade, influence, research, college athlete, and students. These keywords will make it easy to search for content in this thesis. The development style is sought to answer the question whether college athletes should get a salary from their participation in sports. I feel that college athletes should not only be paid but also remunerated handsomely. This is because athletes are generating much money whenever there is a tournament and since these athletes are the sports stars, there is a need for remuneration. Paying college athletes is also a form of appreciating and recognizing young people's talents, and it creates a sense of financial awareness to athletes most of whom are not responsible financially. The world of sports generate much income these days I do believe it is fair that professional athletes doing the same thing can obtain large sums of payment while students have to do it in order just to may get a shot in the professional the professional field.
