Prepare an annotated bibliography that includes at least eight sources that have some relevance to your research topic. Use basic APA format (1-inch margins, everything double spaced, etc.), but do not include a cover page. Put your name in the top left-hand corner and one inch from the top of the page. Beneath your name, centered on the page, put the words Annotated Bibliography.

On the next line, begin your annotated list of research sources. Present the information as you would on a References page. That is, use APA format to identify the source. For example, if you are annotating an article from a periodical: name of author(s) [last name, first initial],
publication date, article title, periodical title, volume and issue numbers (if applicable), and page numbers.

Review section 53c, pages 522-530, in The Everyday Writer for quick reference on how to present the information for various kinds of sources (multiple authors, print books, print periodicals, digital sources, etc.). Sources should be listed in alphabetical order according to last name of author (or title, if there is no author).

For each source, use hanging indents: begin each entry flush with the left margin, but indent subsequent lines one-half inch. Please use the tab key to indent; do not use the space bar.

After each source, present your annotation in a single paragraph that begins in regular paragraph format: first line of paragraph indented one-half inch and subsequent lines wrapped to the left margin. The left margin should be flush (straight), and the right margin should be jagged.

Each annotation paragraph should have the following information, presented in complete sentences, in the following order (but not numbered).

1. The thesis of the source

2. The way the author(s) supported the thesis

3. The purpose of the author(s) in changing minds and in changing what happens "in the world"

4. The tone and target audience of the source

5. A single sentence that explains why the source may be relevant to your purpose/topic/argument

Make sure you print your Annotated Bibliography one-sided and staple the pages before you come to class.
