Political Project- "The President versus the Congress"

INSTRUCTIONS: Answer the following 3-part discussion topic and prepare 44 to 5 page paper hat clearly and succinctly addresses the questions raised and/or opinion requested. In preparing your paper, you may confer with any of your fellow classmates and/or use whatever learning resources you prefer, with the exception of your professor. Although you must double-space your content, you may type your paper utilizing any standard format. In addition, make sure to cite your sources in proper footnote fashion, using any accepted footnote style of your choice.

DISCUSSION TOPIC:

Part I - First, define 6 (six) constitutionally delineated "roles" of the President of the United States (i.e., informal titles) and describe in detail what associated "powers" these roles bestow upon the President.

Part 2 - Then, compare and contrast these "roles" and "powers" of the U.S. President to 6 (six) corresponding and associated "powers" of the United States Congress, as provided directly and/or indirectly in the U.S. Constitution, especially in light of the Madisonian system of "checks and balances".

Part 3 - Lastly, utilize the results of your comparison of these two branches of our American national government and outline the similarities and differences with each branch's "roles" and "powers" as they relate to2(two) of the hot-button topics of the day, for example:

a) Healthcare reform;

b) The U.S.-Afghanistan War and/or the U.S. Occupancy of Iraq;

c) The immigration debate;

d) The current economic downturn or job market downturn;

e) Gay rights / gay marriage; abortion; the death penalty; or other area of social concern.
