I find this topic extremely fascinating. I have personally never understood how process of virus and computer vulnerabilities work but the article and interview does an awesome job of explaining this stuff to the lamen.

It is an interesting paradox, that some of the best code writers and virus creators are the least dangerous people on the internet, almost never releasing their virus to the helpless public. I do agree though that even though protected by tangible intellectual rights, it can be seen as hypocritical to release a harmful piece of software you made to peers and then be angered when they release it into the wild. If I were a programmer, I personally wouldn't see the street cred gains from releasing my material on an open forum crowded with people who do not respect or ynderstand the subject as much as I do. I would only share it and seek credit or accolades from those who share the same attitude and vision as I do. I wouldn't risk the integrity of my work by releasing it to immature "kiddies" who don't respect its value. This is my biggest problem with the white hackers, even though I respect the fact that thye send their findings to cyber protection agencies and malware companies.

I think understanding this culture goes a long way in figuring out how to attack this. As technology advances, we are completely in the hands of its creators to keep us safe, and obviously even companies like Microsoft fall of the boat in that department, which worries me. Something needs to be done to stay steps ahead of these malicious hackers, especially if tests have shown that incorporating cyber terror would effectively do as much damage if not more than physical attacks. I say the governement employ some of these super intelligent young men and let their street cred be transformed into a salary. Pay them to fight the hackers that do not respect the craft. As the article mentioned, most of these young men are libertarians so obviously this idea would probably be hard to implement.

This is a moral dilemma that has intrigued me to learn more. I am also intrigued because my financial accounts and passwords are online and vulnerable, as is my personal information, which makes me eager to learn how I can have a fresh start, protect myself, and run my computer the right way to avoid this dilemma altogether.
