What is the course concepts? This course is about how we co-exist in the world, connected to our community, with each other, and our environment.

We are guided by 5 basic concepts taken from systems and ecological theories to explore this co-existence.

We will focus on the interconnectedness, interrelatedness, and interdependence of individuals on and with one another, the impact of these concepts on community social organizations, and our environment.

We will explore how reciprocity and transactions in the relationships between individuals and elements in their environment also effect the development of healthy and productive individuals, families and groups, encourage productive citizen involvement, and build effective communities.

You will explore these dimensions guided by the above concepts taken from relevant theory. These concepts illuminate the nature and significance of interactions between the environment and individuals and the ways in which these interactions impact important social issues as well as issues of everyday living. Through these processes the community shapes individuals and individuals shape the community and its institutions.
