1. Your text begins chapter five by noting that, "Negative emotion is the tinder that feeds the fire of stress." This, perhaps, is the basis for the frequently heard admonition to "just think positively," or "erase negative thoughts," etc., as well as the publication of books such as "The power of positive thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale.Reflect on the above and indicate what you think on this topic. Do you agree or disagree? Why or why not? Identify techniques you have found helpful, if any, for dealing with these negative emotions.

2. In Chapter five in the section on Emotional Energy, the observation is made that "emotional energy carries messages that each individual names fear, anger, and so forth on the basis of experience."Reflect on a major stress in your life and try to associate it with its predominant feeling. Explain the stress, note the feeling and reflect on what you think might be the causal relationship.
