Persuasive Letter

For this assignment write a Persuasive Letter.

The letter needs to be aboutan issue that is of concern to you, about which you have strong opinions and feelings. This may be related to work, family, or a social issue that matters to you. When you have a good grasp of the ramifications of the issue you've chosen, write a carefully argued letter seeking to persuade the reader to take some sort of action.

Address letter to a real person. Don't complain. Persuade.

Note that "action" might be changing his or her views on the issue. In the textbook on page 34 we read, "Persuasion means trying to influence someone's actions, opinions, or decisions.

In the workplace, we rely on persuasion daily; to win coworker support, to attract clients and customers, to request funding. But changing someone's mind is never easy, and sometimes impossible. Your success will depend on what you are requesting, whom you are trying to persuade, and how entrenched those people are in their own views"(Lannon).

Format: The letter is to be single spaced,2-3 pages, APA format, and in Times New Roman or Arial, 12 pt font.

Steps used in letter and all taken from Chapter 3 of the textbook:

• Identify Your Specific Persuasive Goal

• Try To Predict Audience Reaction

• Expect Audience Resistance

• Know How To Connect With The Audience

• Recognize All Constraints

• Support Your Claims Convincingly
