Originally, 1.0 mL Hydrochloric acid is added to 1.0g of an unknown amine and 28 mL water in the first step of the Synthesis of Acetamides. If we added 3X the amount of hydrochloric acid instead, why would there be no product? If you need the rest of the procedure to answer this, but it involves adding acetic anhydride to the amine hydrochloride solution to a sodium acetate solution, cooling in an ice bath, vacuum drying and then recrystallizing.
