One of the key themes of HIS 102 is the increasing interconnectedness of diverse parts of the world. In a three-to-four page essay that uses relevant documents from the Envisioning World Civilizations reader as well as the textbook and lectures, discuss the interactions between TWO of the following three regions:

1) Africa,

2) Europe, and

3) the Americas (Central and South America or the Caribbean).

Focus on the years between 1400 and 1800.

Your essay should consider the ways in which two regions you have selected interacted and the effects of these interactions on BOTH regions. Remember that those interactions may include exchanges of goods, ideas, and/or people.

You will only need to use lecture notes, the primary source reader, and the Upshur textbook to answer this question. Primarily, you should draw on the resources presented in week 4, 5, and 6. You are strongly discouraged from using outside sources. If you do, however, they must be fully and properly cited. For the course sources, you can use abbreviated citations. At the end of any sentence where you have quoted or referenced one of the texts, use (Upshur, page) or (EWC doc. number) to indicate the source you used.
