Once you have decided on an approved prompt and approved text(s), respond to the questions below.  Please be mindful of the word count and double-space all of your responses.  You are to meet the minimum word requirement without going over the maximum number of words requested.

1. What is your chosen prompt for the literary analysis assignment?

(Use the space below to complete this section. Include the number and first sentence  of the prompt you chose from the list of prompts.)

I have chosen prompt three for the literary analysis.  The first sentence of the prompt is:

Most often, literary works have both internal conflict (individual v. self) and external conflict(individual v. individual, society, nature, or technology).

2. What interests you most about this prompt and why?

(Use the space below to complete this section. Your response must be 100 to 150 words.)

The most interesting thing about this prompt is the human struggle and adventure that willtake place when I explore the struggles of the main character.  We makechoices throughout our life that may or may not have the best consequences. We struggle tounderstand the conflict that these consequences cause internally and externally.  We try todismiss our own thoughts with justifications, knowing all along we are wrong.  The reason why Ichose this prompt is because I am fascinated with the way literature can be perceived in so manydifferent ways. I feel literature is so dependent on the interpretation of the reader.  I will enjoypossibly displaying a different interpretation to my selection.

3. What text(s) will you write about? Why?

(Use the space below to complete this section. Your response must be 100 to 150 words.)

The text that I'm going to write about is William Shakespeare's Macbeth.  I chose this drama because I feel I can express all the struggles within Macbeth that leads to his life of murder. I feel I can express his true belief in other's words and trust in others instead of yourself it can lead you to do things outside of your moral compass.  I feel I can explain the inner struggle that Macbeth goes through with regards to killing the king and his best friend due to his trust and truebeliefs in others. Macbeth relationships with others, his dignity, and his sense of self-worth are all sacrificed for the title of King. The witches' prophecy inflates Macbeth's ambition and ego, causing him to take destiny into his own hands. Happiness, however, did not foresee his gain and eventually ruin was all that found him. I also feel I can show how Macbeth's interior struggle shows in his outside life.

4. What is your working thesis? Keep in mind that "working thesis" means you can slightly modify your thesis for the draft and/or final essay.

(Use the space below to complete this section. Your thesis statement must be ONLY one to two sentences long.)

The conflict associated in the drama Macbeth by William Shakespeare centers on Macbeth's desires for power and his internal demons, his actions is displaying that human struggle against good and bad.

5. What are three key ideas that you will discuss in support of your thesis?  (Write one -- and only one -- sentence for each point.

  • Macbeth's desire to become king of Scotland based on the words of three witches.
  • Macbeth's moral compass fights against what is felt as destiny.
  • Macbeth struggles with the good within his moral and the evil that surrounds him in his wife.

6. What questions/concerns do you have at this point about your project?

(Use the space below to complete this section. Your response must be 75 to 150 words long.)

I am concerned about going different directions once I startdrafting my final paper. I always do. I want to be able to stay focused on one course of thoughtthroughout the next four weeks. I don't want to continue to expand on one path, thencontinue to modify it to the point that it is not even what my thesis states within mypaper.  I also find myself having problems with staying away from slang when writing.
