NICATS Accessing Basic Mathematics Assignment

Scenario:
You intend to fly to a major European cityfrom Belfast (U.K.) any airport (city or international airport), with a friend, for a weekend break (Thursday to Sunday) early this year (probably in April).
- Plan and cost (In Pound Sterling) your break fully for two different cities and present your findings in a document.
- Clearly label each task and include supporting documents / evidence for your costs (In Pound Sterling).
A package holiday will NOT be accepted.

Task 1:
Select two possible destinations for your break and decide on dates.
Obtain costs (In Pound Sterling) for parking your car at the airport, flights and accommodation relating to both destinations.
Include information about the arrival and departure flight times for all flights for both destinations.
State all flight times for both destinations in both 12 and 24-hour clock format.

Show evidence from the websites that you have used and highlight the relevant information that will be of use in the planning process and in identifying your costs (In Pound Sterling).

Task 2:
Decide how much spending money (In Pound Sterling) you will need.
Give details of at least two activities that you plan to do in each city and calculate how much money you will spend on food (Lunch and Dinner) while you are there. You must include evidence of these costs.
This must not just be a rough estimation.

Task 3:
For each destination construct a table showing the following:
- The cost of car parking, flights, accommodation and spending money as well as the total cost in both £ Sterling and € Euros. The exchange rate, £1 = €1.14
- The percentage breakdown of expenditure between these items. You must show your working and round values appropriately.

Task 4:
Present the costs from Task 3 in the form of a pie chart for each destination. You must show all your working outs. Draw the pie chart by hand and label each sector.

Task 5:
Using the appropriate scale map calculate the straight-line distance between Belfast and the second destination. Include a copy of the map in your assignment.

Task 6:
Decide which destination to which you would prefer to go. Write a summary explaining why you have chosen this destination giving at least three reasons.
You must justify each reason using the calculation you have found in previous tasks.

Task 7:
As an afterthought you decide to look into the cost of hiring a car for your preferred destination from Task 6.
- Obtain quotes for hiring six different cars from when you arrive at your destination airport to your departure. Show evidence from the websites that you have used and highlight the relevant information.
- Show this information in a bar chart drawn by hand.

You will be assessed on your ability to use appropriate form and style of writing, to present relevant information clearly and use specialized vocabulary where appropriate. Some marks are also allocated to grammar and spelling.
