New building products and processes are continually coming onto the residential building market, usually replacing or supplementing a traditional method of building, with some being more successful than others.
For this assessment you are required to carry out research into a new building product or process and upload your research onto our Building Wiki. Complete each of the following :
1) Select one (1) product or process that has appeared on the market and gained some acceptance in the past five (5) years or so
2) Ensure that the product or process has not already been researched on one of the Building Wiki pages in the ‘Materials and Processes" section. You will need to go to the units Online notes page, and navigate to the Building Wiki using the left side bar link. The URL is https://www.oten.edu.au/online/mod/wiki/view.php?id=7392&page=Materials+and+Processes
3) Contact your teachers by email at [email protected] and
a) Identify the Unit CPCCBC5004A and Assessment 4, your name and OTEN Id
b) Nominate your proposed product / process
c) Request topic approval and the Wiki URL where you can upload your completed research
4) Your teachers will approve your topic (or not if the topic has already been picked by another student or is unsuitable in which case you may be asked to review and proof an alternate) and provide you with a Wiki URL
5) Undertake your research. Your research report should:
a) Name and describe the product/process
i) Discuss the products or processes briefly. You could discuss some of the following depending on relevance:-
a. where used in residential or commercial construction
b. handling and storage requirements
c. compatibility
d. preservation and maintenance
e. cost effectiveness
f. how does it meet the requirements of the BCA?
ii) List advantages and disadvantages
iii) Include links to manufacturer's websites and brochures
6) Once you have received the URL for the product or process load your research report to the new Wiki URL. This is not especially complex. The steps in order are :
a) This involves copying the research report from your computer to the clipboard (ie highlight report text and press Ctrl + C)
b) navigating to the Wiki page using the URL provided by your teachers, and clicking edit
c) pasting the research report into the relevant WIKI web page (ie Ctrl + V),
d) saving the web page.
7) When complete, submit the following two pages via the OLS to indicate that your research project is complete.
