LEGEND REVIEW
The title of the movie that I am reviewing is "I AM LEGEND". It reached theatres in the U.S.A. on December 14, 2007 and was directed by Francis Lawrence. The movie was about a scientist who after the city was taken over by super zombies is now the last man in the city or possible on earth. In an effort to cure cancer a violent virus made and spread; which caused people to turn into zombies. The scientist was immune to the zombies so he worked on making a vaccine or cure for the violent virus by using his own blood. I truly enjoyed the movie it was exciting and suspenseful. It also had bouts of humor and sadness, which makes for a well rounded PG-13 movie.
The movie was about the scientist trying to find a cure to reverse the effects of the virus. He tried over and over by bringing in more specimens (zombies) in his lab to test the cure on them. At the same time the scientist sent out messages over the air to see if anyone was alive anywhere. By the end of the movie, the conflict was resolved; the scientist found the cure but died by blowing himself and a house full of zombies up. Meanwhile, two survivors Anna and Ethan, got away and made it to Vermont where there were more survivors and were able to give the cure to the military.
The story definitely interested me, from beginning to end, mostly because it was a movie in a movie. The movie begins 3 years later after the virus was released, and some time in between the movie, clips of the scientist's wife and kid getting in a helicopter and , or clips of him in the military. The helicopter scene signified the beginning with the infection started to spread and get out of control and the military ordered the city to evacuate. The scientists' wife and kid had to take a helicopter to safety while the scientist tried to "fix the mess he started". As the city was evacuating the helicopter the family was in almost collided with another helicopter and the flash of the scene stop (I never did see the helicopters crash and explode). Another part that kept my attention was how smart these zombies were. In one part of the film the scientist set a trap to catch a zombie to use for an experiment. The next day when the scientist went back to the same area where he trap made a trap and the zombies had set the same trap for him. That was awesome and it made me want to continue to watch to see what else would happen
The famous movie star that starred in this movie was "Will Smith" a successful actor and rapper, best known to me as and actor on his sitcom, "Fresh Prince of Bel-air". Will Smith has also starred in "Bad Boys, Independence Day. Will Smith is a great actor and he did very well in this movie. Mr. Smith did wonderful by portraying the sadness of being alone and the scientist part that he played show that he took pride in what he was doing. When he went to the store to pick up supplies he was holding a heavy conversation with the mannequin's like they were alive. In another scene at the end of the movie where he locked himself in his lab and zombies where trying to kill him, he screamed, "I can help you", and blew himself and the zombies up. I felt compelled to watch and continue watching all through the entire movie. The excitement and suspense kept me coming back for more. The realness of the zombies in the attack scenes scared me but I still wanted to watch.
There were excellent effects in the movie, when the zombies were moving fast and jumped on something or someone it felt like they were jumping at you (like a 3D movie) or when the zombie dogs were waiting for that one line of sun to go down so that they could attack. I noticed the cinematography and realized that much thought and planning went into preparing for this movie. I could tell that it had to be very difficult and very tedious. In one scene where a zombie was on the ceiling trying to dig his way out; the dark lightening made it seem so real.
This film has action and humor and the storyline is great, everything that you are looking for in a zombie movie. If you are looking for a movie to glue your eyes to and be afraid to go to the little girls and boy's room because you think you may miss something, then this is the movie for you. This is not your old snails pace slow zombies that you are used to. These zombies will have you on the edge of your seat waiting for more excitement. I give these film two snaps in a circle.
