Mega Bonus Credit Dewey Project-reminder and minor date changes

Hi all, I hope that you are enjoying your break! And, to remind you about the Dewey Project, full instructions and description pasted below. It is worth 50 bonus points for expressing your thoughts and opinions in writing (see below for details). Dewey registration link iswww.deweyproject.net. For me it also worked without the "www." Once you enter your info, the website will e-mail you back with the verification code link on which you need to click to get back to site and start working on it. Should you run into a problem with the link, request the site to resend it. Read the instructions pasted below, they will give you a good idea of what to expect.

DEWEY PROJECT DIRECTIONS _March15_.docx

Below are the directions for Dewey Project which involves taking the Assessment of Core Educational Proficiencies (ACEP) offering an opportunity to help you assess and improve your critical thinking, problem solving and effective writing skills:

1. To register, students go to www.deweyproject.net and fill out the requested information. They then:

a. Fill in their name and email address.

b. Next, they get a confirming email in which they click on to begin (again, just as they do with the Community Action Project). The email is from The Dewey Project and has, as a subject, Your Dewey Project Verification Code. If you do not see within ten minutes, BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR SPAM FOLDER.

2. To get credit, students need to complete all three questions in the first and all three questions in the second assessment. Each question needs to be answered with an essay of at least 300 words. It may sound intimidating but many students quite enjoy the exercise because it deals with issues that concern them.

3. Students are allowed up to four hours to complete an assessment. Normally each assessment should not take more than two hours, but the extra time is provided as a precaution. The assessment is automatically submitted after FOUR hours - whether or not the student has clicked finished.

4. A copy of the generic questions students are asked in each assessment is enclosed. Students are encouraged to read the questions before hand to familiarize themselves with the types of questions involved. What makes the assessments interesting is that they deal with problems many college students are familiar with.

5. Students can take a brief stretch or rest room break during the assessment. But, once they start, they only have four hours to complete the assessment. It is best if students use a stable internet connection. If there is an internet disruption or some other problem and the student "kicked out", the student should click on the email link that allowed the student in (in the first place) and continue on as before. Your answers are saved every three minutes so very little will be lost if there is a disruption.
