Literature Review

Requirements

You will write a literature review based on the four sources used for the annotated bibliography. You must follow the structure of the model literature review given in class.

The word count is approximately 1000 words. The word count does not include the reference list.

Using sources
- Writing must be paraphrased in your own words.
- You must provide both in-text and post-text referencing in the Deakin Harvard style.

Literature Review Structure

Your literature review should be about 1000 words, followed by a reference list. You must use in-text referencing using the Deakin Harvard style for all paraphrases from the journal articles.

This is a guide to the structure of the literature review, and what to include in each section. Please note that you should not use sub-headings, numbers or dot points in your literature review.

Introduction

1. Define the topic and state why the topic is important.
• What is the topic?
 - Think about the broad topic that connects the four articles
• Why is this topic important?
 - Think about why it was important for the researchers to do this research

2. Comment on the different aims/purposes of each of the writers
• What were the researchers' aims?
List all four aims using in-text referencing

Body paragraphs (3 body paragraphs)

1. Methodologies
• How are the methodologies similar?
 - Did they use any similar research methods?
• How are the methodologies different?
 - Use compare and contrast language, e.g. linking words

2. Findings of the studies
• Did the authors of the different articles get any similar results?
• Did the researchers get any different results?
Use compare and contrast language, e.g. linking words

3. Recommendations or discussion
• Did the authors make any similar or different recommendations?
• Compare the discussion section of the articles. Were there any similarities or differences in the author's comments or ideas?
Use compare and contrast language, e.g. linking words

Conclusion

1. Gaps in the research
• Were there any limitations to the studies?
This can come from the articles. In journal articles author's often comment on the limitation of their research
You can also give your own ideas, i.e. how you think this research could be improved.
• What areas could be researched more?
 - Imagine that you are going to do some research! What would you like to research to find out more about this topic?

2. Conclusions
• What conclusions can be reached by these studies?

References
• Provide a list of all the articles referred to in the Literature Review, using the Deakin Harvard style.
