Briefly sketch your responses to questions before writing. Page limitations apply both to the entire exam section (i.e., 12 double spaced pages minus title page and any references) and for each individual question (i.e., no longer than 4 double spaced pages). Font size is the equivalent of 12 point pica. There is no penalty for submitting a response that is less than the page limit. The content of the response and its organization are much more important than the length of the response or the number of words.

Answer the following question. It is mandatory.

1. Quality of care will continue to be a major challenge across the long term care continuum in the future. Among the following delivery sites, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, home care and hospice, select two and discuss the best mechanisms to promote quality outcomes. Consider both policy mechanisms by payers and government as well as specific organizational programs long term care administrators can initiate on their own.

In addition, you must answer two of the following three questions:

Given the rapidly aging of the population, please describe the most likely scenario for the long term care continuum in the next twenty years, including care delivery settings, services provided and financing mechanisms. Provide a rationale for those aspects of the continuum that you believe are likely to change.

Describe the traits and training that long term care administrators will need to be effective in nursing homes or assisted living and home care organizations. Compare and contrast the key similarities and differences within an institutional and community-based organizational environment.

Alzheimer's disease is expected to increase rapidly in coming years with the aging of the population. What are some of the programmatic and ethical issues that a long term care administrator faces in dealing with this rapidly growing population? How can these issues be effectively integrated into optimal programs for this special population?
