Unit three is devoted to helping you learn how to effectively research topics - a skill that is necessary in college. Research is an exciting way to learn new and interesting facts - all learning is research. The important tool to remember in research is to cite the source for the information. Citing the source of the information is key to successful research. Your analysis of that research is the basis for your support of your thesis statement. Your thesis statement needs to have a literary theme. Think about the literature we have read this semester. You will want to select an author and literary selection you have read. Your thesis statement is the guiding force for the paper. All the facts, details, sources, quotes, and analysis should support that one statement. Do not put in information if it is not supporting your thesis statement. Formulate a thesis that you can prove within the four to six page criteria.

Thesis statement example:

The legend of Prometheus is the basis for the novel Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley. The character Victor Frankenstein can be seen as a modern day Prometheus and his actions in the novel support this characterization.

· You would research the legend of Prometheus
· Locate expert sources to support this legend
· Research Mary Shelley and her intent for the novel and link to your thesis.
· Analyze the novel citing evidence to support that Victor Frankenstein is the modern day Prometheus and link to your thesis.
· Provide examples from the text and link to your thesis.
· Locate expert resources to support your analysis and link to your thesis.
· Provide details and support for your analysis and link to your thesis.
· Reinforce your thesis with analysis in your conclusion paragraph.
