Imagine you are seeking information on a new car that you are thinking of buying. Determine the level of trust that you would place in information provided by the following: a salesman at the car lot, the dealer's Website, social media (i.e. Facebook), an associate from work, and finally a close friend. What are the key factors involved in assessing the amount of trust that you put into each?

Next, if you were in a position to persuade another person, explain whether or not you would slant information in such a way as to make your point seem more credible if you sincerely believed that your position was correct. What are the primary ethical dilemmas that this scenario could cause for both you and the person whom you are trying to persuade?

If you need some inspiration, just listen to the Clown Prince of Crime:

I would not put any trust into a salesman at a car lot. Their # 1 goal is to sell you a vehicle, any vehicle for commission. I would put some trust into a dealer's website. I feel that they will focus on the facts on why you should choose one of their vehicles whether it's safety or fuel efficiency. Also, you can find reviews on a dealer's website. On the other hand, they are looking to sell vehicles an make money for their business. I wouldn't put any trust in social media because they will tell you anything to get their vehicle sold. I would put some trust in an associate at work but more trust in a close friend because I know them personally and feel that they would be upfront with information pertaining to a car they were trying to sell me. I don't think they would want to put our relationship at stake over a vehicle.

If I was in a position to persuade another person, then I would not slant any information to make my point seem more credible. I would focus on the facts and if I had any opinions on the subject then I would make it clear that it is my opinion. By being honest I don't think there would be any ethical dilemmas.
