Hills Like White Elephants poem.If you need a link to the poem let me know.

So basically I need an annotated bibliography that consists of two sources and then a paragraph after each source explaining what its about.

Then I need the essay that follows the annotated bibliography.

Here are the instructions:

In the discussion below, exchange ideas on topics for your final research paper. If you have a working thesis, present it. If you have a topic, but haven't refined your idea into a thesis yet, show us what you have, and perhaps other people will have suggestions as to what you can do with it. Also, feel free to respectfully suggest your ideas on other people's topics.

You have been asked to submit a thesis and plan of action for your final (1500-2000-word; on the syllabus it says 2000, but I am flexible; a lot can be said in 1500 words) research paper. It must be based on one or more works from the Norton Introduction to Literature and incorporate at least five relevant, peer-reviewed secondary sources. Your essay may address one of the following topics:

1) Critical Analysis: Conduct a close reading of a poem, story, or play. Provide a line-by-line analysis in support of a clear and logical thesis. Clearly, if you choose a longer work, the line-by-line part of your analysis will be limited to a section of the entire work. Nevertheless, you should draw general conclusions. Example thesis statements: "A close look at the final paragraph in Joyce's "Araby" reveals the main conflict in the story-an older narrator persona, telling the story his former self, whose delusions he shames to admit."

"In "The Spring and the Fall," Millay uses her senses of sight and hearing to mark the progression and completion of a romantic relationship." "Glaspell's Trifles, instead of presenting a liberated, unique view of women, reinforces all the most degrading stereotypes women must endure. One can observe these stereotypes through two specific exchanges between Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peter."

2) Analysis via Compare/Contrast: Look at two works that consider a similar theme, and discuss the issues raised in the two pieces in relation to each other. Consider pieces that fit in a category, such as stories that deal with family life, or poems about nature. The works you choose should have specific issues in common, e.g., the many examples of the carpe diem lyric we looked at. Example thesis statements:

"Though speakers in both "The Flea" and "To His Coy Mistress" invoke death to gain romantic intimacy, the argument in "The Flea" does so by confining space to within the blood coursing through an insect, whereas "To His Coy Mistress" presents a vision of time that is expanded and then violently collapsed; in short, while "The Flea" confines space, "To His Coy Mistress" confines time." Two of Millay's works, "The Spring and the Fall," and "Love is not All," both concern aspects of love; however, the poems differ in that "The Spring and the Fall" focuses on the melancholy that accompanies the passing phases of love, while "Love is not All," despite its title, stresses the supreme value of specific moments in a love affair."

Try to find reliable secondary sources from online literary journals. They can be found in the databases available by searching Discover DeWitt,as you have been, through the ‘Library Resources' tab. JSTOR and the LRC have the most relevant articles for this course.

To find one for practice, in the Discover DeWitt search box, search the following: Eliot "Prufrock"
Several articles should appear that discuss Eliot's "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock." Each of these would be a good secondary source.

For some serious results, go to JSTOR and search: "Death of a Salesman" (we'll be reading Death of a Salesman); search through the essays there, reading the abstracts, and see if any of the ideas seem useful or help you think of a topic for your final essay.

Also, in the MacDonald-DeWitt library proper, you should be able to find some background information about the authors: biographies, introductions, etc.; these are sufficient secondary sources as well.

For some of you, the sources you have amassed in your ABs and DQEs thus far are an excellent start, and you can continue researching where you left off on those. You may also feel free to continue or expand upon either of the theses from your Short Essays.

This AB can be much like the others you've done, but I'd like you to include at least five entries.

Consider the following types of secondary sources if you can't find scholarly journal articles on your subject (or even if you can):

letters or other correspondence

interviews with the author

biographies

autobiographies

memoirs

historical documents

other works by the author

other relevant works by other authors (e.g., I'm studying The Odyssey right now, and Margaret Atwood wrote a modern sequel to that book. I'd consider that a relevant source.)
