Hexane is used to wash the solid product of a Sn1 carbocation reaction..... why is ice cold hexane used? and why does it need to be ice cold? The product is triphenylmethyl bromide by the way. Also why does humidity/moisture affect this reaction? and why did this reaction go Sn1?
It was started as triphenylmethanol and then HBr was added and the solid was put the suction filtration and washed with hexane just to give context of the experiment.
