1. Nice Post !

New adaptations of classic plays into the modern world would also seem to fit the model. I think of Shakespearian productions and how these are taken and modern twists applied, for example, Luhrmann's version of 'Romeo and Juliet" starring Leonardo Diacprio and Claire Danes or the recent version of 'The Tempest' starring Helen Mirren in the traditional male role of Prospero. These are examples of innovative thought leading to 'new ways of completing tasks' (Leybourne, 2014).

Even this morning, watching the Macy's Thanksgiving parade, we are visited by street versions of traditional orchestral and theatrical pieces.

It is quite amazing to watch the creativity and the uniqueness of the end product.

The thing I learn from this is that innovative does not necessarily mean completely new but rather is better defined as different, either different in method or in application.

2. Nice post!

When thinking about improvisation in relation to acting and performance, I often essentially associated it to being funny. But you are right when you highlight that improvisation is actually more about being creative! (Even though, when looking at a performance, I often found the most hilarious moments coming from when an actor improvises!)

"Some people misunderstand improv....It seems that improv is all about being funny. But it is not. Improv is about being spontaneous. It is about being imaginative. It is about taking the unexpected and then doing something unexpected with it....The key is to be open to crazy ideas and building on them." (Sloane, 2010)

I guess this is how for example the Luhrmann's adaption of 'Romeo and Juliet", as mentioned by Vivien, came to life; it must have come from a crazy creative idea on which they built, and ended up with a great result!

3 . Nice discussion of improvisation withiin the context of theatre and film. Can you relate this to a personal experience where you have had to improvise in project work? How did you handle it? Dr. Lynn
